The History of MM (Moto Mazzetti)
Moto Mazzetti was founded in 1924 by Mario Mazzetti and Alfonso Morini in Bologna and grew into one of Italy's most technically innovative brands. Mazzetti was renowned for its unparalleled eye for detail and its passion for racing.
"Mario Mazzetti is considered one of the most illustrious names in the motorcycle industry, an enlightened technician, an inspired builder with the most uncompromising attention to detail, bordering on ruthless self-criticism. He is one of those technicians whose life is consumed by working with slide rules and compasses, with workshop equipment, and with design engineers and builders; one driven by a passion for his craft, so that through their hands the craft becomes art."
— Motociclismo, December 1964
When the 175cc racing class was introduced in the 1930s, MM developed this 175cc four-stroke racer, which quickly proved highly successful. The bike was not only a sensation on the track but also a commercial success, partly because the 175cc class was tax-exempt on public roads at the time. After 1933, when the rules changed, MM introduced a 250cc road model.
The 175cc racers continued to impress throughout the decade, setting world speed records and securing a runner-up finish in the Italian Championship with riders Serafini and Bonazzi. Even Scuderia Ferrari once campaigned an MM.
In 1937, the paths of Mazzetti and Morini diverged; Morini founded Moto Morini, while Mazzetti continued with MM for a while longer, until the company went bankrupt in 1957 – marking the definitive end of a legendary brand.
Conclusion
This MM 175 A-Sport is more than just a motorcycle; it is a piece of living Italian racing heritage. A rare opportunity to own a piece of history from a brand that stood for engineering, passion, and speed.
